A renormalisation-group approach to two-body scattering with long-range forces

چکیده
We apply the renormalisation-group to two-body scattering by a combination of known long-range and unknown short-range forces. A crucial feature is that the low-energy effective theory is regulated by applying a cut-off in the basis of distorted waves for the long range potential. We illustrate the method by applying it to scattering in the presence of a repulsive 1/r2 potential. We find a trivial fixed point, describing systems with weak short-range interactions, and a unstable fixed point. The expansion around the latter corresponds to a distorted-wave effective-range expansion.

Emergent universality in the two - neutron halo structure of 22 C
The structure of the two-neutron halo C is investigated by means of a renormalized zero-range three-body model, with interactions in the s-wave channel, and a finite-range model with twoand three-body forces provided by the hyperspherical adiabatic expansion method. In both models the halo wave function in configuration space is obtained by using as inputs the two-body scattering lengths and th...
متن کاملEstimating Consequences of 3-Body Forces
Classifying the strengthes of three-body forces 3BFs with the condition that observables must be cut-off independent, i.e. renormalised at each order, leads to surprising results with relevance for example for thermal neutron capture on the deuteron. Details and a better bibliography in Ref. [1]. Adding 3-Body Forces (3BFs) a posteriori when theory and data disagree is untenable when prediction...
متن کاملMore effective theory of nuclear forces
I outline why the renormalisation group is needed to analyse the scale dependence and hence determine the power counting for effective theories of strongly interacting systems. I summarise the results of several such analyses for two-and three-body forces in nuclear physics. These show that a number of terms should be significantly promoted relative to naive dimensional analysis.

We study Umklapp couplings and their renormalisation group flow for electrons in a two-dimensional lattice. It is shown that the effective low energy Hamiltonian involves not only forward scattering, but also considerable non-forward Umklapp scattering, when the electrons fill a substantial fraction of the valence band. The behavior of these couplings under the renormalisation group is studied ...

Time-dependent Born-series calculations are carried out for various short and long range three-body scattering systems. The long range system is a standard s-wave model for electron-atom scattering developed by Temkin @Phys. Rev. 126, 130 ~1962!# and Poet @J. Phys. B 11, 3081 ~1978!#. A direct solution of the timedependent Schrödinger equation yields exact excitation and ionization cross sectio...
